Rudolf Chaudoire Prize

For the past 29 years, TU Dortmund University has been awarding the Rudolf Chaudoire Prize to outstanding young scientists who advance their research through international cooperation.

Rudolf Chaudoire was an entrepreneur from the Ruhr area who was particularly concerned with promoting vocational training for young people. By testamentary disposition he established a foundation named after himself. Since 1995, the Rudolf Chaudoire Award for young scientists has been awarded at TU Dortmund University from the proceeds of this foundation. Two awards are presented each year during a festive event.

Every year, Professor Manfred Bayer, Rector of TU Dortmund University, and Dr. Gert Fischer, Member of the Board of Directors of the Rudolf Chaudoire Foundation, give the welcoming speeches. Professor Nele McElvany, Prorector of Research at TU Dortmund University, introduces the prizewinners who then present their research work. The program is accompanied by alternating music ensembles of TU Dortmund University.

The award is intended to support a research stay of young scientists from TU Dortmund University at a foreign university or research institution. The costs for the stay abroad should amount to more than 5,000 € in total. A committee decides on the awarding of the prizes, which includes the Rector of TU Dortmund University, Prof. Dr. Manfred Bayer, Prof. Dr. Nele McElvany, Prorector for Research and Dr. Gert Fischer as a member of the board of the Rudolf Chaudoire Foundation.

This year's Rudolf Chaudoire Award Ceremony took place on 27 November 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the Rudolf Chaudoire Pavilion at the South Campus. A report will follow here shortly.
